So Easy, So Fun, PILLOWS!

I wanted something fun and easy today and something that I could do in one class as it was my last class for the summer So I chose a Pillow! We (the person working at the counter and I) cut the fabric and I folded it in half and cut it, pinned it on all sides leaving about a four inch hole and sewed around it. Then I turned it right side out and put the stuffing in and blindstiched it shut! Way easy! It is so fun to see it sitting on my bed each day and think "I made that!" -Sewing Girl

Hmmm, Zippers.

Today we put the zipper in and, although it is in now we had a hard time getting it sewn. It was pinned in a way that did not catch the bottom piece so after sewing it a few times and unpicking it a few times we realized it and fixed the problem. After I tacked the inside on the top to the seams so that it would not come up (we had already sew around the top) I went and tried it on and we pinned the hem. All I had to do was stitch the hem and I had my skirt! I am so excited to wear it! - Sewing Girl

My Skirt!

Today I started making my skirt and and it's SO cute! It is black and white and I will be able to wear it with tons of stuff! I am so excited! First I cut out the pattern and pinned it to my fabric, cut it out, then took the pattern off and the Teacher pinned it together for me and I surged the seams. That is as far as I got this time and I will be putting in the zipper next time! -Sewing Girl

Pillowcases!

I decided to go for something a little easier today and made two pillowcases! They were so easy and totally a fun way to put a little personality into my room! I made one of these for me and one for my sister but I think they are both very cute! It was so easy! You just sew and iron and you can have it done in thirty minutes!-Sewing Girl

Finishing!

I finished the bag! I did the straps and then the teacher pinned the outside, inside, and the strap's all together and I sewed around the edge's and Presto! I have my Bag! I am SO happy! That is one of my favorite things about sewing- The sense of accomplishment when the project is done! Here are some pictures of it.

Pockets!

So Close!

I am almost done with my bag! I think I will finish next time!

Going Again

I am done unpicking! I finished the last little part at the beginning of class and I am sewing again! I have my flower on the front of my bag and I am working on the inside now! You basically repeat the first few steps for the front and then you start making the pockets! Those are so fun! Once you have ironed the fabric on to the thermo-lam (both pieces) and sewn on the little top piece you draw the pocket divider lines on with disappearing ink. Then you sew down the lines attaching them on to the inside part (Don't forget to back tack)! I am excited to work on it again next time!- Sewing Girl

Unpicking

Sewing class went great today- but I am still practically cross-eyed from unpicking! I sewed one of the seams straight until the end- it had a huge dip in it! Unfortunately it was on "thermo-lam" which is white and fluffy, and I was sewing with white thread so it was nearly impossible :-) to see! Oh well. I have just a little more unpicking, and then I can get going again - YAY!

Sewing Class

I had sewing again and got lots done on my project but I am still not finished! It was so fun to talk with the other kids while I worked. The Teacher is so nice and even if you have never touched a sewing machine before she is the kind of person that you are not embarrassed to ask for help with. So she told me to Iron a seam and I did not understand how she wanted me to Iron it so I said "Will you show me?" And she did and did not act like it was silly for me to ask or anything! She was just totally willing to help me! That is why I like Sew Right so much! All of the people there are so willing to help you and do whatever you need. Even if you just come in and ask a question about some random project or your sewing machine they will genrally know the answer and help you right then and there! It is so nice! - Sewing Girl

First Sewing Class

Okay. So I had my first class today and it was totally awesome! The teacher reviewed how to use the sewing machine with me and then had me do some paper tests where you sew along the lines on a paper without the thread. After I did my paper test she taught me how to thread my machine and then had me pick a project and she said that since I had done enough sewing before I could do this really cute bag like the one they had on display. So I picked out the Fabric and they cut it for me and then pinned it and told me where to sew. I got a lot done today but I still have lots to go! Some of the other kids in my class are making pillow cases, book bags, skirts, pillows, all kinds of stuff. I am so excited to go back and make more stuff! - Sewing Girl

Sewing Excitment

Okay. So the only sewing I have ever done is what my Grandma has taught me which is basically how to make a sewing machine run and how to sew four corners and make a simple little thing. I hope I will be able to learn how to make something a little more difficult! - Sewing Girl
